Rich History

Why "Golden Circle"?

Our name draws inspiration from Shasta County’s rich history as a cornerstone of the California Gold Rush. In 1848, gold was discovered on Clear Creek, just outside present-day Redding. This moment sparked a rush of opportunity, innovation, and growth — and placed Shasta County at the heart of one of the most transformative periods in California history.

In addition, the term "Golden Circle" refers to a region around Shasta, Siskiyou, Lassen and Tehama Counites known for its scenic beauty and recreational opportunities, including hiking, fishing, and kayaking. This area encompasses attractions like: Mount Shasta, Lassen Peak, Shasta Lake and Whiskeytown National Recreation Area.

The phrase “Golden Circle” honors that legacy. It represents prosperity, resilience, and the enduring value of community — principles that continue to shape the region today and guide the work we do.
